Content Delivery and Mobility of Users and Services in New Generation Networks

New generation network, with quality of service as one of the key requirements, is expected to hide the functional complexity and heterogeneity of network infrastructure, and to enable ubiquitous, personalized and secure access to advanced information services and digital content. Fundamental research is oriented towards information and communication network and service architectures based on knowledge and new media paradigms. The proposed research addresses information and communication as related to context, location, and user interest and needs; and autonomous, intelligent and mobile network components characterized as software agents, with the ability to collaborate and to act on behalf and for the benefit of the user. Fundamental goals include new models of mobility, semantic description and content networking, complex multimedia and multi-user services, and value added services oriented towards information society. It is postulated that these goals may be reached by synergy of digital content, dynamic and adaptive services, and knowledge present within the network and information space, on one hand; and new software processes, business models, and social impact of new services, on the other.

Expected results include theoretical models of mobility in networks, context-aware and content-based services and service delivery platforms. Generic models of networks and services will be applied to targeted solutions for mobility in general and agent mobility, advanced services for content delivery, networked virtual environments, quality and authenticity of the Web. From the point of view of the society, an impact of innovative services will be assessed. In addition, Croatian Identity in information space, as one of the short-term strategic priorities of the Croatian National Research Council will be addressed within scope of information service www.hr – Home page of Republic of Croatia. The results will be verified by analytical and simulation methods, as well as by developing and using research prototypes and network testbeds. Social aspects of innovative services will be addressed in sociological surveys.

The research proposed in this project will contribute results to science in the area of Information and Communication Technology, as one of the long-term strategic priorities of the Croatian National Research Council, to employment in research and development, to export of knowledge-based products, and to development of information society in Croatia.
