Assistant Professor Vedran Podobnik

Vedran Podobnik is an Assistant Professor at the Telecommunication Department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb.
He received M.Eng. (2006, Electrical Engineering) and Ph.D. (2010, Computer Science) degrees from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. His master thesis title was "Software Agents in Electronic Markets" and his Ph.D. thesis title was "Multi-Agent System for Telecommunication Service Provisioning based on User Profiles".
As a junior researcher, he received the Croatian Annual National Award for Science in the field of technical sciences (2011, awarded by the Croatian Parliament), as well as the Silver Plaque „Josip Loncar“ award for outstanding doctoral dissertation and particularly successful scientific research (2010, awarded by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb). As a PhD student, he received the Croatian Annual National Award SCIENCE in area of technical and biotechnical sciences (2007, awarded by the Croatian Science Foundation).
His research interests include multi-agent systems, social networks, electronic markets, context-aware services, business process automation and the semantic web. He collaborated on research projects with almost 30 scientists, resulting in co-authoring over 40 scientific and professional papers as book chapters and articles in encyclopedia, journals (4 in CC journals) and conference proceedings. He is a member of IEEE and KES International associations. |

- 1st Prize in e-business project contest (2007). Awarded by Agrokor, leading Croatian food and retail conglomerate;
- Best Student Paper Award for the paper co-authored with supervised student (2007). Awarded by the ConTEL 2007 (9th International Conference on Telecommunications) Programme Committee;
- 1st Prize in annual company contest for student projects (2005). Awarded by Ericsson Nikola Tesla, leading Croatian ICT company;
- "Josip Loncar" Award, the Dean's award for the best graduate students in particular academic year (2005). Awarded by University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing;
- The "City of Zagreb" University Scholarship (2005). Awarded by the Mayor of Zagreb;
- Triple win of one of top-three places in Trading Agent Competition Finals (2005-2009). Awarded by Association for Trading Agent Research, consisting of over 40 teams representing top-notch universities from over 20 countries;
- "Josip Loncar" Award, the Dean's award for the best graduate students in particular academic year (2004). Awarded by University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing;
- State Student Scholarship (2001-2006). Awarded by Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports;
- Student of the Generation, Fifth Grammar School Zagreb (2001). Awarded by Headmaster of Fifth Grammar School Zagreb, which is ranked as #1 high school in the country by the Croatian Education and Teacher Training Agency;
